Visitorsneed to make a reservation before they visit the Tiananmen Squarestarting from 15th. Dec. This new rule applies to both individualvisitors and tourist groups. The purpose is to create a goodenvironment and order for visitors traveling to Tiananmen Square.It’s also a new trend to make reservations ahead of time in thetourist market in China, which can help improve the services fortourists. It also helps the prevention against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Visitorscan make a reservation for the visits in the following 10 daysthrough the WeChat mini-programs like 'Tiananmen Square ReservationService' and 'Jingchengzhiyue', and the applications such as'Beijing Tong', "Beijing Daily", BRTV. Or log onto the‘Tiananmen Square Reservation Service Section’ on the officialwebsite of Tiananmen Management Committee(http://yuyue.tamgw.beijing.gov.cn). The elderly, elementary andmiddle school students, and the disabled who have challenges in usingsmart terminals can make reservations with the help from theirrelatives and friends, or look for help from the staff on-duty there.

Reservationsare available for four time-slots including the flag raisingperiod(4-6AM depending on the sunrise time), morning, afternoon, andflag lowering period(6-7PM depending on the sunset time) each day.There is no limit on the total number of visitors at this stage afterthe policy of visiting by reservation takes effect, but necessarymeasures to control the visiting flow will be adopted accordinglybased on the changing situation of the pandemic and prevention work.It should be noted that reservations do not exempt visitors fromsecurity checks, and visitors still need to go through securitychecks before entering the square.

(1)Visitors who have made reservations to visit the following places atthe Tiananmen Square just need to show their reservation record onmobile phones to the staff on-site. And those places includeTiananmen Gate Tower (temporarily not open to the public now),Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, National Museum of China, The PalaceMuseum, Beijing Zhongshan Park, and Beijing Workers’ CulturalPalace

(2)Reservation of individuals: A maximum of 7 people can get registeredon one reservation page, which has simplified the reservationprocess.

(3)Reservation of tour groups: The travel agency should make thereservation on behalf of the travelers in the traveling group. Thereis no need for the individual in that traveling group to make aduplicated reservation.

(4)The seniors, the minors including the elementary and middle schoolstudents, and people with physical challenges who find it hard tomake reservations by using the digital gadgets can ask help fromtheir friends and family members, or they can get help from the staffmembers on-site.
